DG Controls is launching the new RF*/RMLED/, a traditional rotating mirror beacon with solid state LED light source, offering 360degree all-round visibility
DG Controls (deegee) are pleased to announce the production launch of the new RF*/RMLED/, a traditional rotating mirror beacon with solid state LED light source, offering 360degree all-round visibility. With an extremely high light output, for example on the Red RMLED of 278Cd, and a very pure colour obtained from using the same colour LED as beacon lens, this is truly a revolutionary product.
The product has been designed to use extremely low power, typically 5W power use at 24V.
This makes it suitable for fire and security systems, and for systems which feature battery back-up in case of failure of the primary power source.
The Ultra-low current draw means more units can be powered from a single source. The lower power usage also means less energy is being wasted as heat.
The long life of the LED (100,000 hours typically) means low maintenance and, fitting into deegee’s E, G, H, J, K and T housings, a solution is available to suit all types of finish and application.
All deegee’s housings are certified to Environmental Standard IP 65 to afford shower-proof protection, or for more exposed environments, take the G series with its IP68 Certification.
The RMLED can be combined with Piezo Sounder – pulsed, chime or monotone – in E deegee housing.
Red, Amber, Green, Blue, Clear colour options are available, all made from UV-stabilised polycarbonate.
Brackets and Protective Guards are available for most models.
A Swadlincote company is proving a beacon of success thanks to a management buy out and a business review carried out by Business Link Derbyshire.
Established in 1967, beacon and sounder company D. G. Controls Ltd, was bought out in June 2003 by Jon and Wendy Whiten and now employs 15 people.
It designs and manufactures all its products in-house which means it can specialise in customer-specific requirements as well as a vast range of well-established beacons and sounders. It supplies directly to UK markets and exports all over the world via dedicated distributors.
With Jon’s long involvement with the company, from the grass roots up, and Wendy’s extensive blue-chip experience in manufacturing management and product design, a strong management team has been established.
A free benchmarking exercise carried out with the help of Business Link Adviser Peter McBride meant that Wendy and Jon could learn from other organisations and improve the performance of their business still further.
And the results have been really impressive – as focusing on what really influences top and bottom line has brought financial benefits, and a 27% increase in UK sales.
“The benefits have been more than just financial,” said Wendy, “as it has been useful to bounce ideas off somebody else.”Â
“One of the greatest difficulties in running a business, and particularly a SME, is having the opportunity to step out of the business and look at the bigger picture. Working with a Business Link Adviser forced us to do this, and we discussed and challenged all areas, from marketing strategy to export to training to manufacturing methods to pricing structure.
“We had an action plan at the end of the sessions and a follow up review from our Adviser will ensure that time taken away from the business bears fruit and doesn’t become a ‘collecting dust in the drawer’ exercise.
“It’s amazing that all this support was available free of charge,”; added Wendy.
Business Link opened doors to other help at the Manufacturing and Advisory Service (MAS) and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI). Jon also received funding from the Lead2Succeed management development programme to undertake CIMA qualifications.
Swadlincote-based Beacon Lamp manufacturer D.G. Controls Ltd is celebrating the achievements of three of their Manufacturing Team, who have been awarded National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). These qualifications formally recognise the employees’ skill levels in carrying out their day-to-day work, and also included aspects such as Health & Safety at work, and productivity improvement.
Working on site-based assignments, and assessed by Pat Lowery of Derby College, Ann Toone and Gail Grant achieved passes at NVQ Level 2 Performing Manufacturing Operations, and Lynn Beresford achieved a pass at NVQ Level 2 Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations.
The company was delighted to be able to support these individuals in achieving formal recognition of their role, and we congratulate them all for their well-earned achievements. We are also grateful to Derby College for assisting with funding for these qualifications, said Jon Whiten, Managing Director of D.G. Controls Ltd.
The company formally presented the team with their Certificates at D.G. Controls, Cadley Hill Road on Tuesday 6th September 2005.

On Friday 10th June 2005 a gruelling cycle ride came to an end. However it was worth the 950 miles in 71 hours and 31 minutes, as it was all to raise money for The Meningitis Trust. A grand total of over £6000 was raised. deegee was delighted to help the team out, by providing a xenon flashing vehicle beacon for the support vehicle, to keep the riders safe and alert other road-users to the (slightly!) slower traffic ahead. www.72hourchallenge.org.uk

A new ISB range of compact, IP65, low-current, combined flashing beacon and sounder units is being launched by DG Controls
These are particularly suitable for alarm systems where power is at a premium. All models incorporate a pulsed ring of high intensity red LEDs behind a red translucent polycarbonate sounder horn. The integral 110dB(A) sounder has 32 tones, selectable by internal DIP-switches, with the primary tone energised by a simple 2-wire connection and a secondary tone via a third wire.
Maximum volume can also be adjusted by internal preset.
Two basic housing styles are available.
The standalone ISB-E is built upon the same white ABS base as the popular Series E ‘High Dome’ beacon lamps to retain the traditional look-and-feel of this long-established range of visual indicators. The ISB-E is also compatible with existing wall-mounting brackets and cage guards.
The ISB-T utilises the same black polycarbonate base as the Series T, U, V and W beacons, with its novel ‘ratchet’ linking system which allows two or more beacons and/or sounders to be clamped together as an integrated unit.
Versions for all popular supply voltages are offered: 12V DC, 24V DC, 115V AC and 230V AC.
